What Are the Guardian Beasts?

Symbols of protection, balance, and inner strength

At SHIHOjapan, we introduce five sacred symbolic beings known as the Guardian Beasts.

They are:

Azure Dragon / Seiryu
Phoenix / Suzaku
Qilin / Kirin
White Tiger / Byakko
Black Tortoise / Genbu

In Eastern wisdom and Feng Shui, the Four Guardian Beasts are often known as protectors of the four directions.
At SHIHOjapan, we also include Qilin / Kirin, the sacred guardian of the center, to express the complete world of the Five Elements.

The Five Elements are:

Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water.

These elements represent the natural flow of life — growth, passion, stability, clarity, harmony, and renewal.

The Guardian Beasts are not magical beings that control your life.
They do not promise miracles or guaranteed protection.

Instead, they are symbols.

They help you remember the strength, balance, beauty, and wisdom that already exist within you.

They are quiet companions.
Mirrors for self-reflection.
Small signs of intention that you can carry in your daily life.

This is the world of the Guardian Beasts at SHIHOjapan.

Azure Dragon / Seiryu

Guardian Beast of Growth

Azure Dragon / Seiryu is the guardian of the East.

In the Five Elements, Seiryu is connected with Wood.

Wood represents growth, dreams, expansion, ideals, and the energy of moving toward the future.

In Eastern symbolism, the dragon is connected with water, rain, fertility, prosperity, and life force.
At SHIHOjapan, Seiryu represents the power to grow, develop, and open yourself to new possibilities.

Seiryu reminds you:

You are allowed to grow.
You are allowed to dream.
You are allowed to move toward the future.

When you feel called to begin something new, expand your vision, or trust the path ahead, Seiryu may be the Guardian Beast that speaks to you.

Phoenix / Suzaku

Guardian Beast of Rebirth

Phoenix / Suzaku is the guardian of the South.

In the Five Elements, Suzaku is connected with Fire.

Fire represents passion, beauty, expression, joy, and transformation.

Suzaku is often associated with the image of a phoenix — a sacred bird that rises again.
It symbolizes rebirth, renewal, and the courage to begin a new chapter.

At SHIHOjapan, Suzaku represents beautiful transformation.

Even after an ending, something new can begin.
Even after difficulty, your inner fire can return.
Even when life changes, you can rise again with grace.

Suzaku reminds you:

Your fire is not gone.
Your beauty is not lost.
You can begin again.

Theme: Rebirth
Keywords: passion, beauty, renewal, transformation, new beginnings

Qilin / Kirin

Guardian Beast of Stability

Qilin / Kirin is the guardian of the Center.

In the Five Elements, Kirin is connected with Earth.

Earth represents foundation, grounding, support, nourishment, and the power to bring things into form.

In Eastern symbolism, Qilin is a noble and sacred creature associated with peace, blessing, prosperity, and longevity.

At SHIHOjapan, Kirin represents stability.

Kirin is the quiet center.
It reminds you to return to your foundation, to build slowly, and to create prosperity from a place of peace.

True abundance does not come from rushing.
It grows from a stable heart, steady choices, and a life built on harmony with yourself and others.

Kirin reminds you:

Stand in your center.
Build your foundation.
Let your life become stable enough to receive abundance.

Theme: Stability

White Tiger / Byakko

Guardian Beast of Protection

White Tiger / Byakko is the guardian of the West.

In the Five Elements, Byakko is connected with Metal.

Metal represents clarity, dignity, refinement, decision, boundaries, and the power to protect what is truly important.

In Eastern symbolism, the White Tiger is known as a courageous guardian.
It is associated with strength, protection, harvest, and decisive action.

At SHIHOjapan, Byakko represents protection.

This is not loud or aggressive power.
It is calm strength.
It is the ability to say no.
It is the dignity to protect your time, your energy, your values, and your true self.

Byakko reminds you:

You may protect what is precious.
You may choose with clarity.
You may stand with quiet courage.

Black Tortoise / Genbu

Guardian Beast of Harmony

Black Tortoise / Genbu is the guardian of the North.

In the Five Elements, Genbu is connected with Water.

Water represents wisdom, flow, depth, healing, intuition, and inner rhythm.

Genbu is traditionally represented as a tortoise and a serpent united together.
This image is deeply symbolic.

The tortoise represents stillness, longevity, and deep protection.
The serpent represents movement, transformation, and hidden wisdom.

Together, they show the harmony of different forces.

Stillness and movement.
Protection and change.
Yin and yang.
Depth and flow.

At SHIHOjapan, Genbu represents inner harmony.

Genbu reminds you that you do not need to rush.
You do not need to force yourself into one fixed shape.
Even your contradictions, emotions, and inner changes can become part of your balance.

Genbu teaches you to return to your own rhythm.

What the Five Guardian Beasts Teach Us

Each Guardian Beast carries a different symbolic energy.

Seiryu teaches growth.
Suzaku teaches rebirth.
Kirin teaches stability.
Byakko teaches protection.
Genbu teaches harmony.

None of them is better than the others.

They each represent an essential part of life.

The power to grow.
The power to begin again.
The power to stand in your center.
The power to protect yourself.
The power to return to harmony.

Together, the Five Guardian Beasts form a circle of balance.

They are not outside powers that control your destiny.
They are symbols that help you remember your own inner strength.

Guardian Beast Aroma Brooches

At SHIHOjapan, the Five Guardian Beasts are expressed as handcrafted wooden aroma brooches.

Each brooch is inspired by one Guardian Beast and can be worn with your favorite scent.

Place a small drop of essential oil or fragrance on the unpainted recessed area on the back of the brooch.
Then wear it on your clothing, scarf, or bag as a small daily ritual.

Wear your scent.
Wear your Guardian Beast.
Return to yourself.

The scent is not magic.
The brooch does not change your life by itself.

What matters is what you remember when you wear it.

Your intention.
Your inner strength.
Your own rhythm.

Choose by Heart or Discover by Birth Date

There are two ways to meet your Guardian Beast.

The first is to choose by heart.

You may choose the Guardian Beast whose design, energy, or message feels meaningful to you now.

The second is to discover your Birth Guardian Beast.

Through SHIHOjapan’s birth date reading, we identify your Guardian Beast based on the day you were born and provide a personal PDF reading.

One is chosen by your heart.
The other is revealed through your birth date.

Both are beautiful entrances into self-reflection.

A Symbol to Help You Remember Yourself

SHIHOjapan does not offer Guardian Beasts as objects of fear or dependence.

We offer them as symbols of remembrance.

You already have the power to grow.
You already have the power to begin again.
You already have the power to become stable.
You already have the power to protect yourself.
You already have the power to return to harmony.

The Guardian Beasts simply help you remember.

Wear your guardian.
Carry your scent.
Return to yourself.
